(By Steve Green – Las Vegas Sun) Longtime Las Vegas casino industry publisher Anthony Curtis was accused Friday of copyright infringement for posting on his website a Las Vegas Review-Journal story — a story involving Curtis’ company.
Curtis was among 10 website operators sued Friday in U.S. District Court in Las Vegas by Righthaven LLC, a company that obtains copyrights to Review-Journal stories and then sues website operators that allegedly infringe on the copyrights. Click here for the full story.
Consumer spending rose a slight 0.2 percent in May, follow a flat April, as Americans continued to tighten their grips on their wallets amid a slow economic recovery. Spending, which declined on good, increased from expenditures on services, a likely result of using more electricity as the weather warms.
Incomes rose 0.4 percent, boosted by the temporary hiring of census workers.
Robert C. Byrd, the longest serving member of the U.S. Senate, a fiery orator and hard-charging power broker, died last night at 92. Byrd was a master of the Senate’s bewildering rules and longtime chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, which controls a third of the $3 trillion federal budget. He was willing to use both to reward friends and punish those he viewed as having slighted him.
